So I just go a yak and Im ready to catch some fish. Looking for a launch site close to town for impromptu trips, but also areas like Wakulla beach and Panacea to spend a day out on the boat. Im looking for any advice that might be offered on where I can catch a delicious bass, or a redfish or some trout or snook! Would I be ok with a top water lure or a spoon to catch redfish?

Thanks!

For reds always take a gold spoon (Captain Mikes or Johnson's are the two most popular), a 1/8 oz or 1/4 jighead with plastics or Gulp!, and a top water lure. These are the three simple setups that most anglers use to get started or at least always have with them.

I've personally never been that successful with a top water plug, but I don't throw them that often either. I have some buddies that catch a lot of reds on top water though.

I personally like throwing a spinner bait like a Strike King Redfish Magic. However, I would recommend using what you become comfortable with and what produces fish for you. It will take some time figuring out what you like. In a kayak sometimes you are forced to try different methods because you cant start the motor and ride to another spot very easily.

For saltwater fishing one the easiest places to get to is the light house at St. Marks. Plus it's very pretty drive going in. Also, the Panacea area, Oyster bay, Hickory Mounds to the east, Alligator Harbor, and Wakulla beach.

For freshwater, any neighbor hood pond you can get access to will usually produce bass, also Lake Jackson, Carr, and Iamonia would be great choices.

As for catching Snook, you'll have to head down south a little ways from our area. I've heard rumors of some people catching them up here in the summer, but it's a very rare occurrence.
