Hi,

My name is Kasi Thursby and I live in Miccosukee, FL. I am asking the community for help with a fishing tournament. On October 22, 2005, Kristina Nicole Flatt, a Leon high school graduate and my little sister, died suddenly at the age of twenty-one from an adverse reaction to a prescription drug. Krissi was uniformed of the risks associated with her prescribed medication. Parents and young adults should be better informed of the side effects associated with over the counter drugs as well as prescribed drugs. That is why my mom, my older sister and I have created a foundation called the Krissi Flatt Foundation (also known as tkff). The goal of tkff is to broaden prescription drug awareness through public outreach about the effects of prescription drugs and their interactions with other drugs and substances.

This is a picture of our family. This was taken the day my little sister died. She is the one in the middle wearing the black tank top. My little sister Krissi and I were giving our older sister a baby shower. Krissi died a few hours later. Our mom, Jane Munroe, is in the middle wearing the white button up shirt. She has focused all her energy on finding ways to prevent other parents from getting the exact same phone call she got from a nurse in the emergency room. We are just your all American family and together we are trying to create more efficient ways of informing patients of their medications and their possible interactions with other medications, both prescribed and over the counter.

The foundation has decided to host an annual fishing tournament in order to raise funds for the tkff projects. On October 18, 2008, tkff hosted our first annual tournament; however, we were unable to gain enough support through community sponsorship to cover the costs; the foundation ended up going in the hole as a result. In order for us to be able to host our Second Annual Krissi Flatt Fishing Tournament, we have to secure at least $15,000.00 in sponsors from the community. The Krissi Flatt Fishing Tournament will take place on October 24, 2009 at the Carrabelle Boat Club, if we are able to secure the sponsors.

I am hoping to update the tkff website as soon as possible. I just graduated from FSU with a degree in Information Technology, so I am the one responsible for maintaining both the http://www.tkff.org and the http://www.krissiflattfishing.com websites. I have two little girls, one of which is disabled, and its summer so you can imagine how much time I have to be the webmaster right now. But they will both be updated by the middle of next week.

If you are interested in knowing more about my little sister http://myspace.com/foreverkrissiflatt and I have written about her entire life and the day of her death. It's important to me that her death does not go un-noticed. She was your all American girl. She was a family girl with big dreams for changing the world and she loved, loved, loved to go deep sea fishing.

Below are two pictures of Krissi deep sea fishing. She caught this tarpon all on her own. She said it took her at least three hours to finally get him on the boat.

Please, if you know anyone that is interested in becoming a sponsor or is interested in fishing the tournament, or both, could you please email me at info@tkff.org?

Thanks so much for your support Tallahassee!!!

Sincerely,

Kasi Thursby

We'll pass the word and I'm sure I know one boat that will probably sign up once the registration begins. I'm sure a few folks on here will pass the word on sponsorship opportunities as well.
