I recently got a call from a friend in Georgia to ask about the fishing in lake Jackson. He'd read something about someone catching an 11 lb bass.

I had given up on lake Jackson thinking that was still a wet spot in a field and not the beautiful fish filled lake of some years ago. I'd seen lake Jackson come and go through the years but nothing like this last drought. I had figured the aquifers had been drained from the increasing population north of Florida and Jackson was gone forever.

Can someone tell me the Lake Jackson situation, Is it coming back? How's the fishing? Will it ever be as big as it was years ago?

Lake Jackson was one of the best big bass lakes in the USA many years ago. I'd love to go back and catch a big largemouth.

Thanks

Perhaps someone else will chime in that's been out more than I have, but the lake is slowly coming back. After all that rain last year, it really has maintained it's current level. You shouldn't have a problem going out an picking up smaller bass. It's nothing like it was 20 years ago though. There is the occasional big bass pulled out from time to time, but mostly the smaller size that are just fun to catch. Be careful if you do go, I'm not sure if the state has said it's at it's "Safe" to runn water height yet.

I have heard a couple of people around town claiming they have caught a few bass over 6 pounds within the last year. I have not caught any that big yet although I have caught alot of bass lately. I went out to Milller's landing a couple of days ago. Throwing a weightless worm at the edge of the grass/lily pads I caught 9 bass within a few hours. Biggest one was about 2 1/2 pounds. Most were a pound or under. Not too shabby considering I was in a 10 ft jon boat with a 36 pound thrust trolling motor. Good luck on the water!!

Lake Jackson has been back for about a year and a half.  Lots more grass and pads than you will remember.  It's full of both water and great Bass and Brim fishing.  Most info you need can be found at www.fishtallahassee.com

I havn't been out to Jackson in a couple of months. But when I was going I was frequently pulling out 2 pounders out everywhere on crank baits. I did see a lunker of a bass pass right in front of my canoe but ot was not interested in my plastic i was fishing at that time. so the big ones are out there for sure. just like most places you just gotta find them. I usually fish on the side closest to I-10. I noticed I dont have as much luck on the north side of the lake.
