I do not agree with shutting down the entire lake. If they can generate revenue for our county I'm all for closing sections for the lake on event days, but not on practice days as well.

There is a huge lake about 16-20 miles due south of the city. Perhaps they could hit it on calm days.

It also seems that there is more to this than just the water access. If they bought property in a residential area that could get interesting as well. However, I know that many of those neighborhoods don't have restrictions out there. I'm sure their neighbors aren't too happy.

Lake talquin fishermen vs. capital city rowing

in case some of you have been out of the loop on this. i started threads on other forums about this. so i will cut and paste what i wrote on the other forums.

CCR is trying to close the lake to hold thier meets and practicing. my parents live on williams landing road including some close friends of mine.

if you like to fish lake talquin, especially at williams landing you need or better get involved. capital city rowing is shutting down the lake for the chapter to train for thier rowing compitition. my folks live on williams landing road and say folks everywhere are highly P"d off. all the bass clubs are talking along with other recreational fishermen. dad's neighbor craig(i don't know his last name, but he lives in the 2nd house on the left) is putting together a group of people to go and protest to jane sauls at the next county meeting. i'm sure the more the merryier. i know you can call mike campbell of campbell's bait and tackle and get more info from him. mike also lives on williams landing road.

last weekend and this weekend was a huge mess because of those rowers. they have bought property that they plan to build a building on. they had both sides of the road blocked with those huge trailers and mobile homes, preventing fishermen from finding a place to park. and thats just the local chapter. they say for a national meet-over 5000 people will be in attendence.

folks its summer and lake talquin will be closed to fishing for everyone while the meets are held.

here's a forum topic i started a while back in the tallahassee demacrat. please read and lets get help to stop this. YES THE ENTIRE LAKE WILL BE SHUT DOWN FOR THESE MEETS!

http://www.tallahassee.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=PluckForum&plckForumPage=ForumDiscussion&plckDiscussionId=Cat%3a30f86b6c-2c70-4e17-a97d-c2236f245e27Forum%3a3417254a-218f-47fb-bcd5-3aca62e439b1Discussion%3a79270c91-c0ad-4398-8b47-9facbe71a942&plckCategoryCurrentPage=0

folks if you plan on fishing anywhere on lake talquin you better get involved. just for a local meet they are talking 6,000 people and 1500 vehicles. williams landing will be shut off for these rowing meets. not to mention the lake shut down to everything.
According to Linda Summerlin (Jane Sauls assistant) they couldn’t get it on the agenda until sometime in April.

craig mann has been putting flyers on fishermans windshields only to have them removed by the rowing clubs.

i got an email from a guy that said that his friend went out there the other weekend and got a ticket for just driving by while they were having a meet and the landing was closed.

just wanted to let ya'll know how serious this is getting.

next time you are williams landing on lake talquin, look at the backside of the posting board at the ramp and the CCR club has the dates of thier practices and meetings. that would be the dates the lake is closed to everyone but them.(unless someone removes it)not me, i want everyone to know what they are doing, and the dates they will need to find somewhere else to fish or boatride. maybe then folks will get involved and send them somewhere else to paddle thier boats.

capital city rowing is trying to have lake talquin shut down to everyone so they can practice and hold national meets. they already bought property on williams landing road(a residentual neighborhood) as many as 5,000 people are to attend such meetings. us fishermen are trying to stop this. there is a county commission meeting this tuesday may 12th at 3:00 in the courthouse. many residents of lake talquin, big time bass fishing clubs and commisioner Jane Sauls are on the fishermens side. you support is greatly needed. i plan on being there. come and show support for the fishermen, we can stop this from happening. thanks

here is info i found out about the commission meeting. the author of this did not want his name attached- he said he was getting too many emails.

There were approx. 20 persons there for our cause. 2 Reps from Parks and Rec. Tony Park, Director of Leon county Public Works and Pat Plochek, director of Parks and Rec. No reps for the rowing teams or CCR were present. About 7 or 8 individuals spoke on our behalf and a general discussion was had about the situation at Williams Landing. In conclusion all members of the County Commission agree with no dissenters that a commission or board will be set up to further investigate what can and will be done to come to a resolve. More meeting will be held with area residents and board members and this agenda will be addressed at future Commission meetings after impact studies and all findings and all opinions are analyzed.

In my opinion it was a positive meeting for our concern and at this point I think most if not all the commissioners are on our side. They pretty much understand that blocking off the river channel (where the rowers’ course is laid out) is really a safety issue for the power boaters because of all the submerged stumps in the lake outside of the river channel. The commission agrees that FWC, Florida Fish and Game, and the DNR will have to get thoroughly involved in all the meetings being that they set the rules of the road for all lakes in Florida . There will definitely be more to come on this issue. The vote was 7-0 in favor to continue the fact findings to resolve this issue. My advice to you is to watch the commission meeting from this week aired on TV for all the details.

woods and water magazine had an article on the subject in june's issue.
