Not many of my friends are into fishing here so I'm trying to network and meet people who are into all types of fishing. Whether its freshwater or saltwater. I have a small two person canoe I do all of my fishing on, so if your stuck fishing on shore all the time, i can help you out. Yet if anyone wants to take me out on their bass or saltwater boat I would be more than willing to join ya, haha. But yet just trying to meet some people, and have more opportunities to go do one of my favorite hobbies.

Night Fishing

Just got home from doing some night fishing from one of the fishing piers at Lake Talquin. Landed some real nice bass on a crank bait. Caught one on my very first cast, and the night just kept getting better and better left after catching a nice 8 lb largemouth around 2:30am. But just wanted to let everyone know its def worth missing the heat of the day and hitting up some fishing at night right now the fish are super active.

Piers and docks in Tallahassee

Hello everyone new member here. I live in Massachusetts where unfortunately there are not that many mussels to find. I am looking for people who come across the little (sometime not so little) buggers when outdoors. I would love anyone who finds the muskrat middens on the side of the rivers/lakes (or how ever they come across the mussels) to box up a bunch of paired fellas big and small and send them my way. I am only looking for dead/spent shells, not live ones. I collect and study and write about all the different species. I'm not concerned about big or small, the more different ones the better. Anyone who would be able to help me with my studies by just picking up a bunch of the ones you find while fishing would be a HUGE help in my studies. I would certainly compensate you for your effort and of course pay for shipping too. The only requirements would be that you provide matching paired (not single) valves and that they are not totally broken (they don't have to be absolutely perfect with no chips at all, but the cleaner with their natural "skin" the better). I've been trying to make contacts with people across the country that naturally run into mussels while out fishing or hiking that might be able to just pick up shells they come across without it being a big hassle for them. I can't thank enough anyone who would consider assisting me with this project. You can contact me through this site or directly at kczaja@harvard.edu. Thank You!!!!! And good fishing!!!
-Kevin
lake seminole catfish

been doing really well catfishing on lake seminole in late afternoon-dark. Im finding deep holes or submerged ponds off the main channels and bottom fishing with cut shad and sometimes live bream. Best place to get shad is below the jim woodruff dam off the spillway, or use a cast net right at dark below the dam along the walls and you will get hundreds of shad and have to toss alot of them back. happy fishing

Catfish

Catfish taste so much better from the wild than those farm raised ones. Everyone has a favorite "go to" catfish bait and fishing hole. For me nothing does better than some gloworms out at Lake Talquin. They love those things. What are some of your favorite catfish baits and spots? Ive heard that Sonny's stink bait is suppose to be some of the best stuff to use around here, but Ive never caught anything on it.

Trolling Motor

Looking for a trolling motor to use on my canoe. He'd read something about someone catching an 11 lb bass.
I had given up on lake Jackson thinking that was still a wet spot in a field and not the beautiful fish filled lake of some years ago. I'd seen lake Jackson come and go through the years but nothing like this last drought. I had figured the aquifers had been drained from the increasing population north of Florida and Jackson was gone forever.

Can someone tell me the Lake Jackson situation, Is it coming back? How's the fishing? Will it ever be as big as it was years ago?

Lake Jackson was one of the best big bass lakes in the USA many years ago. I'd love to go back and catch a big largemouth.

Thanks

Frog Legs

Where I can find some frog legs to cook with and where I can find some in a restaurant? YES THE ENTIRE LAKE WILL BE SHUT DOWN FOR THESE MEETS!

http://www.tallahassee.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=PluckForum&plckForumPage=ForumDiscussion&plckDiscussionId=Cat%3a30f86b6c-2c70-4e17-a97d-c2236f245e27Forum%3a3417254a-218f-47fb-bcd5-3aca62e439b1Discussion%3a79270c91-c0ad-4398-8b47-9facbe71a942&plckCategoryCurrentPage=0

folks if you plan on fishing anywhere on lake talquin you better get involved. just for a local meet they are talking 6,000 people and 1500 vehicles. williams landing will be shut off for these rowing meets. not to mention the lake shut down to everything.
According to Linda Summerlin (Jane Sauls assistant) they couldn’t get it on the agenda until sometime in April.

craig mann has been putting flyers on fishermans windshields only to have them removed by the rowing clubs.

i got an email from a guy that said that his friend went out there the other weekend and got a ticket for just driving by while they were having a meet and the landing was closed.

just wanted to let ya'll know how serious this is getting.

next time you are williams landing on lake talquin, look at the backside of the posting board at the ramp and the CCR club has the dates of thier practices and meetings. that would be the dates the lake is closed to everyone but them.(unless someone removes it)not me, i want everyone to know what they are doing, and the dates they will need to find somewhere else to fish or boatride. maybe then folks will get involved and send them somewhere else to paddle thier boats.

capital city rowing is trying to have lake talquin shut down to everyone so they can practice and hold national meets. they already bought property on williams landing road(a residentual neighborhood) as many as 5,000 people are to attend such meetings. us fishermen are trying to stop this. there is a county commission meeting this tuesday may 12th at 3:00 in the courthouse. many residents of lake talquin, big time bass fishing clubs and commisioner Jane Sauls are on the fishermens side. you support is greatly needed. i plan on being there. come and show support for the fishermen, we can stop this from happening. thanks

here is info i found out about the commission meeting. the author of this did not want his name attached- he said he was getting too many emails.

There were approx. 20 persons there for our cause. 2 Reps from Parks and Rec. Tony Park, Director of Leon county Public Works and Pat Plochek, director of Parks and Rec. No reps for the rowing teams or CCR were present. About 7 or 8 individuals spoke on our behalf and a general discussion was had about the situation at Williams Landing. In conclusion all members of the County Commission agree with no dissenters that a commission or board will be set up to further investigate what can and will be done to come to a resolve. More meeting will be held with area residents and board members and this agenda will be addressed at future Commission meetings after impact studies and all findings and all opinions are analyzed.

In my opinion it was a positive meeting for our concern and at this point I think most if not all the commissioners are on our side. They pretty much understand that blocking off the river channel (where the rowers’ course is laid out) is really a safety issue for the power boaters because of all the submerged stumps in the lake outside of the river channel. The commission agrees that FWC, Florida Fish and Game, and the DNR will have to get thoroughly involved in all the meetings being that they set the rules of the road for all lakes in Florida . There will definitely be more to come on this issue. The vote was 7-0 in favor to continue the fact findings to resolve this issue. My advice to you is to watch the commission meeting from this week aired on TV for all the details.

woods and water magazine had an article on the subject in june's issue.

G.Loomis for sale, deal

I have a brand new G.Loomis greenwater baitcasting rod that i want to get rid of...Used Once (today actually) and I dont prefer the action myself so I just want to get rid of it...This rod at Kevins in tallahassee brand new goes for $230-240. Recent reports said the bass bite was fair and the crappie bite was good, they were both gross exagerations. The water temp stayed in the low 50's even though the air temp was pushing 80 all weekend.

Friday I met my brother and nephew at Long Shoals landing to put the boat in the water. We went north towards Sugar Creek to fish some of the docks that were surronded by deeper water. We figured a few fish might be brave enough to get out of the deep channels so we mostly threw crankbaits and spinner baits with little luck.

While we were bass fishing I saw a hawk fly off near one of the docks and my nephew said he saw another one grab something on the shoreline. I really couldn't see much on the shore, but I took a few pictures anyway to see if anything would come out.

Look how well this guy was camouflaged

Here's a crop of the previous pic. It looks like he got a mouse for dinner.

Next we tried trolling the creeks for crappie. We landed a couple of nice ones, but they went back for somebody else to catch. We heard that hybrids and stipers were holding up in some of the deeper water near the Oconee River Dam, so we loaded up the live well with shad and tried out our jigging skills. We saw a few folks pulling in a few 2-3 pounders, but never saw anything to write home about. I think DNR has only been stocking Oconee with Stripers for two seasons, so they haven't had a chance to grow yet.

My nephew ended up with a real nice one. I'm not sure if the shad were bigger that his fish though.

Lake Jackson fishing

Does anyone know the bass hotspots on lake Jackson?

Douglas, GA 11-26-08

After fishing with Talltails Wednesday morning, me, my wife and the dogs headed up to Douglas for Thanksgiving. I never fished the Flint before, so I was looking forward to getting in to some shoal bass. The Flint is an interesting place to fish. The river is very diverse and within minutes you can go from 12 inches to 30 feet, and a boulder can sneak up on you without any notice. (I thought the Econfina was rocky) There are a number of cold water springs and some of the riverbanks are dug out limestone and steep to say the least.
We made it out on the water Saturday morning putting in around 8:30. It was my first shoal bass trip, so I wasn't really sure where or what to throw. I tried a spinner, a popper and a floating worm with little success, but I wasn't the only one struggling. Its definately tough to find them on the river because you don't get a lot of time to experiment. Even with the trolling motor digging in against the current you only get a couple of cast before your pushed downstream and away from the eddies that hold the shoalies.

Even though we were skunked at the first hole, the scenery was nice.

We packed it up and headed to another landing near the marine ditch where the water wasn't moving as quick. Before I knew it, I landed my first shoal bass on a white Rap-X.

We threw this guy back for another day. Three casts later, I picked up one with a little more fight. I heard they bulldog at the boat like redfish and this guy didn't dissapoint. relatively speaking.

Now that I was an expert shoal bass fisherman, we decided to try our luck on the elusive Appaloosa Catfish. I wanted to try noodling, but my buddy wanted to try a more conventional approach. We made our way to some deeper water and ended up this this kitty cat using a live bream. He measured around 12 pounds.

We headed back to the house to get ready for the game out west. The Bulldogs made a nice showing, so all in all our weekend trip was a success. Looking forward to making another trip to the Flint now that I got my feet wet.

Geat Ol' Bigun

Check out this bass I caught yesterday:

She weighed 9.4 pounds and is the largest I have ever caught. It was an awesome day and not too much wind for the kayaks. I took my Heritage and rented a couple more from Rob at TNT. It was great to do a little kayaking without the fishing gear for once and enjoy the scenery.

Summertime on Talquin

Over the years I have read numerous articles and books about bass fishing during the dog days of summer. I think I know what to do.

I have two depth finders on my boat and a GPS unit with depth contours of the bottom of Lake Talquin. I know where the deep holes, channels, and drop-offs are. I have the marker buoys to mark them. I have eight or more rods rigged with all varietes of jigs, Carolina-rigged worms, Texas-rigged worms, drop-shot and shakey head worms, and DD14 and DD22 crankbaits.

I can't buy a bass on Talquin right now. I know there are guys like Rob Lawhon who can catch fish on Talquin this time of year, but I sure am not one of them. Right now I am really looking forward to some cooler weather.

Lily pads on Lake Monkey Business

When I moved to Killearn Lakes in 1991, Lake Monkey Business had a lot of lily pads. Shortly thereafter the pads were all killed off and the homeowners' association (HOA) put grass carp in the lake. The result of the complete lack of vegetation was a general decline in fish population.
This summer the lily pads have come back with a vengeance. I have great hopes that the bass population will recover now that they have a place to hide. The HOA has posted the lake as catch and release only which also ought to help the bass population recover.

I fished Monday from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. and caught five bass. All were caught on a SPRO Little John crankbait along the old creek channel. None of the bass were big, but they should provide some brood stock for future.

Paddle Trails in the Tallahassee area.

Online guide for paddle and hiking trails in the Tallahassee area.
www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/guide/regions/panhandleeast/panhandle_east.htm

Florida State Guide to Paddle Trails (PDF Maps)
http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/guide/paddle.htm

Big Bend Paddle Trail
http://myfwc.com/recreation/big_bend/paddling_trail.asp
Father's day weekend on Lake Seminole

My dad pulled his Stratos bass boat to Lake Seminole Friday morning for the third annual Blackwell family granddad, dad, son fishing weekend. Me and 8-ball drove over to meet up Friday night. We stayed in one of the log cabins at Wingate's Lunker Lodge. Fished Sat. from sunrise to 1PM, got out of the unbearable heat until about 5:30PM when we went back out till 8ish. Total for the day: 7 Bass, 4 of them keepers.

Sunday morning: fished from Sunrise till 1PM. The conditions were perfectly perfect. Started out with a plethora of topwater with no response. After 20 minutes, everyone switched over to zoom brand speedworms and It was on.......... Bass were holding up right off the main river channel in the edge of spotty grass over sandy bottom about 4-6 feet. My dad absolutely killed them. Me and James were in utter amazement. He should have joined the tournament trail years ago. After a few hours, I just put all my stuff up and sat and watched the master. Total for Sunday: 17 Bass, 11 of them keepers. 1 warmouth perch that was half the length of the speedworm.

I haven't downloaded the pictures yet. I will add some photos later.
