I thought this is pretty cool so I went up to my lease in Ga. to try my luck again. Went out to the first spot and didn't hear or see anything, so we decided to hit another spot and when we got to the power line we could see a few black spots on the sand hill about 700 yards away we stopped dead in our tracks and hit the call those spots started to move so we knew they were turkey. They started to come and as soon as they got to the creek and couldn't see us move we moved up about 75 yrds. and hid behind a cut pine branch. they gobbled once they hit the creek and no more, I thought they might have stopped, but after a few more minutes I saw both of them just to the right of me. I eased my gun up and waited for the righr moment. The first one was nice but the second one was bigger. Thought I would shoot the second one and let my friend shoot the first one, as he was right to my left about 20 ft. away. They came within 10 or so yrds. I pulled the trigger and the first one went straight down, and I thought how could I miss that close, but the big boy went down right after. 2 with 1 shot ,, how much luckier could I get..... I think I like this turkey hunting. I don't think I'll get that lucky again

Turkey lease/club wanted for 2011 season

I'm looking for a turkey lease or hunt club for Turkey season 2011. Had one bird working towards me then went the other direction about 100 yards out. Figured he saw a real bird, got spooked, or something else.

This best thing was my friend took his son and they doubled up on two Gobblers. Wish I had picts, but it was worthy of a mention. I always drive around with a couple calls in the truck this time of year practicing pot calls or box calls at red lights. The beauty of diaphragm calls (mouth calls) is that they are hands free while driving.... in the woods too. Of course many people that use mouth calls place their hand up over their mouth so they technically aren't hands free anymore while hunting.

I also record my calls with my cell phone or camera and play them back to hear how I sound. I would recommend doing this at home or in the car while driving. I would also recommend recording at a distance or playing the calls back and standing several yards away. The call will sound differently than while you are playing the call. You'll be surprised that sometimes the call that didn't sound so good, actually sounds great.

Good luck to a great season.

Jerry White Box Call (Dad's Calls - Dad's Favorite)-

Sound sample.
http://www.tallahasseeoutdoors.com/mp3/jerrywhite-box.mp3

David Halloran Pot Call - Crystal Mistress

Sound Sample
http://www.tallahasseeoutdoors.com/mp3/david-glass.mp3

David Halloran Box Call - Checkered Box / Yellow Poplar & Macassar Ebony

Sound Sample
http://www.tallahasseeoutdoors.com/mp3/halloran-box.mp3
Vest Modification

Last year I was looking into buying a new vest and decided to go with the Mossy Oak Super Elite III Turkey Vest. I was also very interested in the Cabelas Tactical Tater. I liked features of both, but went with the Super Elite just because I could try it on first. One cool feature the the Cabelas vest had the the Mossy Oak vest lacked was an clip that would hold your sand paper or pad for roughing your slate and pot calls. So with a little leftover decoy line and a couple alligator clips I added my own to my vest. Clip the line to an inside pocket or anywhere on your vest and clip the other end of the line to your paper. I loved this feature last year in the field. Once I got setup I would unzip my pocket and let my sand paper hang down for easy access after calling. Plus I never lost track of my sandpaper or pad.

Win this Turkey Gun for Only $1

Donate and help support the Appalachee Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF. Because of this our chapter cleaned house with state awards at the state convention. We were the highest in dollars raised vs. dollars spent in all the chapters in Florida. Not only that, we were 1st place in regular members and 3rd in sponsors..... I was really impressed to find out how big the entire show was. The exhibit hall had hundreds of vendors and they set a record crowd with over 47,000 people coming through. The evenings consisted of dinners mostly made up of committee members, sponsors, and other NWTF members. There must have been a a couple thousand folks that attended the dinners as well.

I attended as an Exhibitor and as an NWTF committee member. It was a great time and can't wait to do it again next year. It was awesome to find out more about the Federation and all the great things they do. It's a lot more than protecting and conserving the turkey. They really do fight for your hunting rights and preserving the hunting tradition.

Here are some pics....

With David Blanton

Taxidermy Displays by Hazel Creek

Taxidermy Competetion

Custom Made Call Competetion

Our JSS Both

Dinner with Blake Shelton Performing

Exhibit Hall

NWTF Gun of the Year Tickets

Long recognized as a leader in the gun industry, Winchester introduces yet another outstanding firearm. I guess it stinks that I had to go all the way to Nebraska to fill my tag this year, but that's hunting sometimes.

I tagged along with 3 friends to Fullerton, NE to chase Merriam's turkeys. They might have more of a hybrid there, but either way it was a Merriam to me. :) We all had a successful trip and throughly enjoyed the hunting. I would highly recommend it for someone that's never been or is use to hunting our much quieter Eastern turkeys around North Florida and South Georgia. I bet I heard more gobbling in three days than in the last fours years here around Tallahassee.

Below are a few pics from our trip.

Me and my Merrriam. I was lucky enough to get this bird around mid-day by myself. (I had to give my guide a hard time about this, but I was hoping to fill a tag on my own calling anyways.) He did put me on the spot and he was an awesome caller though. I really learned a lot from him.

All four of us with our birds.

Me and my guide Ken.
