Also, don't forget that our banquet has been moved back to August 14 this year. So please save the date for the largest conservation banquet of the year in Tallahassee. Last year we donated $48,000 to in the ground projects from our banquet alone. Because of this our chapter cleaned house with state awards at the state convention. We were the highest in dollars raised vs. dollars spent in all the chapters in Florida. Not only that, we were 1st place in regular members and 3rd in sponsors..... So thank you all for doing a great job and helping to preserve wildlife and the hunting heritage in our great state.

Was thinking about picking up a David Halloran call this year. Was wondering if any of you guys have used his calls and liked them? I almost bought one last year, but got one from a guy out of the montgomery area. Nice sound but the workmanship isn't as nice. Figured I couldn't go wrong with a call from Halloran considering his calls have won several national awards, etc....

The turkeys beat me two days in a row. I did have two toms roosted near me opening morning but couldn't get them in range. Fun to see though. Anybody have any luck?

NWTF Annual Convention and Sport Show - Nashville, TN

Just got back from the NWTF Annual Convention and thought I'd share some photos. I was really impressed to find out how big the entire show was. The exhibit hall had hundreds of vendors and they set a record crowd with over 47,000 people coming through. The evenings consisted of dinners mostly made up of committee members, sponsors, and other NWTF members. There must have been a a couple thousand folks that attended the dinners as well.

I attended as an Exhibitor and as an NWTF committee member. It was a great time and can't wait to do it again next year. It was awesome to find out more about the Federation and all the great things they do. It's a lot more than protecting and conserving the turkey. They really do fight for your hunting rights and preserving the hunting tradition.

Tallahassee Chapter of the NWTF

The Apalachee Longbeards is our local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. This is a national conservation group and has done a great job with bringing back the Wild Turkey in the State of Florida as well as the rest of the country.

Nebraska Turkey Trip

I'll start things off here with a post from my Nebraska trip this spring. I guess it stinks that I had to go all the way to Nebraska to fill my tag this year, but that's hunting sometimes.

I tagged along with 3 friends to Fullerton, NE to chase Merriam's turkeys. They might have more of a hybrid there, but either way it was a Merriam to me. :) We all had a successful trip and throughly enjoyed the hunting. I would highly recommend it for someone that's never been or is use to hunting our much quieter Eastern turkeys around North Florida and South Georgia. I bet I heard more gobbling in three days than in the last fours years here around Tallahassee.

Me and my Merrriam. I was lucky enough to get this bird around mid-day by myself. (I had to give my guide a hard time about this, but I was hoping to fill a tag on my own calling anyways.) He did put me on the spot and he was an awesome caller though. I really learned a lot from him.
