As anyone saw any promising signs of ducks. I have saw alot of Teal on lake Jackson, and lake Miccosukee. I have not seen very good numbers anywhere else.

Have travel all over the country with the dam and stud for upland birds and always limit out with those two. Pups are not register as dam and stud are rescues. No hip or eye problems with either - pups are ready to go with shots and worming. Males = $150 and females = $175

2010 Duck Season

Was it just me, or did anyone else have this kind of season. To start the season I was seeing a very good number of ducks. Then it seemed like after the christmas time pasted. The numbers almost went to nothing. It seemed to me that in the past few years. The last season has produced more numbers than the early season. I was wondering if anyone else had this kind of luck?

New Duck Hunting Spots

I have been a avid duck hunter, ever since I was a little boy. I have mostly hunted the Ochlocknee river, from Hwy 90 to Sopchoppy. This year I have started scouting/hunting Lake Lafayette. I am wondering if anyone would be willing to share/exchange info on possible good spots. Any Lakes, Rivers, or bay locations around the Tallahassee/Wakulla is what I am looking for. I know many people, myself included spend a lot of time and leg work scouting spots. And most are not willing to give up much, if any info. However if you are it would be most appreciated.

Sinkhole on miccosukee

A large sinkhole (about 30 yards in diameter) has opened up on the southwest corner of the Leon County side of Lake Miccosukee right next to the public boat ramp on US 90. It formed around 12 noon today, and water from the lake has been draining into this sinkhole as fast as it can. Before now, there had only been one sinkhole associated with Lake Miccosukee, and that was the one on the far northern end of the lake by Reeves Landing, which is separated by the lake only by the concrete spillway constructed by FWC.

I've heard FWC is going to investigate. Can anyone out there confirm this?

New to NW FL Duck Hunting

I'm new to FL duck hunting and would really like to meet up with dedicated duck hunters to help me with the basics. Thanks to my career in the USAF have hunted ducks all over world just not in the demanding FL habitat. I'm a retired USAF colonel and we live in Mary Esther FL (between Destin and Pensacola) on Santa Rosa Sound. I would be happy to provide a great lunch and 1/2 of all expenses i.e. gas ect. to meet up with some duck hunters for a hunt or two.

I hunt mostly on Eglin WMA. There are tons of crystal clear shallow streams all over the WMA and i was wondering if wading them would be a good tactic for wood duck?

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. Just a few more hours until I can get home and go through the final checklist, which is one of my favorite parts about opening day....just hunker down in the man-cave, checking the rigging on my decoys, duck hunting DVD on in the background just for the sound of gunfire and calling, and my lab wandering around anxiously, even though the poor little gunshy fella can't go. Just had lunch with my boys Clark and Miller Time to make sure we've got the gameplan for tomorrow, as I'll be acting as guide and had to give them a briefing. I've learned to enjoy and appreciate the planning and anticipation almost as much as pulling the trigger. I'm glad I've learned this at a young age, because it seems so many guys around my age are still all about the numbers, and not about the sport. Sad to see, really.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. Be safe, and bring a kid hunting when you can.

Kayak Paint Job

I lightly sanded the kayak, then primed and painted camo to use duck hunting. I have used it the past for ducks, but always had to fully cover it since it was red. I thought by painting it I could actually hunt from the yak if I was in deeper water.

After priming I made a stencil by cutting shapes out of a legal size hanging file folder. It held up well and I used it over the entire yak. You can buy the licensed camo stencils if you want to go fancy with it, but all this costs was about $30 or so for the paint and primer which was all in spray cans.

Here's the finished product. Hopefully we'll have some ducks to take pictures of Saturday morning.

Scouting the lakes

Hello all. My name is Alessandro and I am new to this forum. Me and my wife moved up from S.Florida for college. We love Tallahassee and have been all around town. We both recently got interested in hunting. We have never hunted before and this will be our first season ever. We are looking forward to it so badly. We will hunt waterfowl, deer, and turkey. There is only one problem, we don't know where to start. I met a guy from DuckHuntingChat forums and he was nice enough to take me to Lake Iamonia to scout. So we finally bought a canoe and went scouting this weekend but did not see any Geese. I don't know where else to look because I don't know where to begin. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Georgia Dove Hunt

Went to a dove hunt up near Albany with MillerTime and a few other yesterday. We didn't have a great shoot, but it was steady. Some folks did have better spots and I'm sure some got the limit. We could have gone without the 95 degree heat, but it was worth it for time in the field with good people.

Can't wait till my little one is old enough to join us.

FWC considers prohibition on permanent duck blinds on 4 lakes

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), meeting today in Dania Beach, approved a draft rule prohibiting anyone from hunting in or near a permanent duck blind on four lakes near Tallahassee.

The lakes are Miccosukee, Iamonia, Carr and Jackson. Following final review of the draft rule at the FWC’s September meeting, the rule will take effect prior to the fall waterfowl season.

Under the rule, no one can duck hunt within 30 yards of a permanent blind. A permanent blind is defined as anything that provides shelter, cover or concealment for a hunter but does not include any rooted vegetation. Neither does it include any temporary blind used only while the hunter is present.

The FWC took action to ban hunting from permanent blinds on the four lakes as a result of continuing conflicts between the people who build them and claim ownership on sovereign state lands and others who use the same area. In addition, FWC officials say constructing the blinds on public lakes is a violation of existing Florida Statutes.

Change of Motor Restrictions on Miccosukee???

I had heard awhile back that the motor restrictions on Miccosukee were to be raised to 10 HP in duck season. I also heard that Iamonia would remain the same except for the youth duck hunt dates. Has anyone found out if this is going to go in effect for 2008? I couldn't find anything on FWC's website about it. Looks like the waterfowl brochures wont be updated for another month or so.
