I do hope you guys are recovering well over there and business will pick back up for all of you fishing guides and people that make a living on the gulf. I know the oil spill has hurt all types of business in Florida and hopefully tourist and people in general will start showing up again. It took a solid year for myself and other guides on Galveston to start booking fishing trips on a steady basis after hurricane Ike. It will happen, hopefully sooner than later! As for fishing over here, it is still great. I am really looking forward to our fall season. We had an excellent summer with good quality speckled trout and redfish being caught on most every outing. Huge gulf trout up to 22 inches were also caught all summer long. Now we are heading into our fall fishing season where we fish under the birds with artificial lures. This type of fishing can be non stop at times. Schools of speckled trout, redfish, gulf trout and sand trout are usually feeding under these flocks of birds. You never know from cast to cast what you will catch. We are still catching near limits of trout and redfish with live bait right now. Traditionally at this time of the year we have already switched to artificial baits, but if we are still catching them on live bait, why switch? I will try to post at least one report a month from here on out. Hope you enjoy them.

Capt. Fishing Report 5-08-10

:) I want all my fellow guides in Florida to know that my prayers are with you and hopefully this oil spill won't have such a negative effect on your fishing and your business! I know first hand about devastation, hurricane Ike put a big dent into my business for months and it isn't easy to deal with. I wish the best for all of you. I do want to let everyone know that most likely Galveston Bay will not have any effects from that oil spill. A lot of people are asking me about that every day and from everything I have heard and read there is a very little chance that it will come our way. Ok as for fishing in Galveston TX., it has been very inconsistent. The weather just hasn't settled down. The winds are always the main culprit! One day the wind is from the north, the next day from the south, the next day from the north east and it's usually blowing from 15-25 mph. That makes it very hard to consistently stay on fish. The trout bite has been getting better, we have had some good catches when the wind has been under 15 mph. I really think once the wind dies down we will have some excellent days on the water. It seems like our weather pattern is about 2-3 weeks behind this year. We are catching fish right now where we usually catch them in March and the spots where we catch them in May are not yet producing. That's why they call it fishing and not catching. Adjusting to this is what we do as guides and any good guide will somehow put you on some fish on most days. I have seen some disappointed customers at the docks lately. Even though they aren't my customers I still hope for all anglers to have good fishing days on the water. Sometimes the weather and fish just don't cooperate. We have still been taking some jetty trips and catching some good redfish, drum, sheep head and some speckled trout. Our speckled trout trips lately have been producing usually 10-15 keepers with an occasional 4 or 5 pounder being caught. We are using live shrimp under a cork right now, but I have seen some good catches from croaker lately. East and West bay are producing some decent catches and the trout are over deep shell on the mid bay reefs. The winds should start to lie down soon and when it does we will be having those traditional May days, where we have limits or near limits on every outings. June is always a great month to fish too and you don't have to worry about the winds. Well to conclude this report I will say I think fishing is going to be really good real soon and this summer so get out there and catch some fish. Until next time, see you on the water.

Capt. Hope fishing is good for you over there! Fishing for trout here in Galveston has been a little slow due to the high winds we have been having. We are having our consistent WINDY March and April! I usually complain about the wind in my reports every Spring, but I have gotten so use to it that there is no need to anymore. LOL! My brother Capt. Steven and I have started running our Spring Break and Family Fun Trips during these months to avoid having to cancel so many trout trips. It has been good for our customers and for us. These trips can be really fun for the kids or for anglers that want to catch bigger fish. We will start running some trout only trips in the next few weeks. Overall fishing the Jetties has been really productive for us over the past two weeks. (excluding the windy days) We are still catching redfish, sheep head, puppy drum and oversized drum on these trips. We are using live crab for bait for the drum, but they are hard to come by because of the high demand right now. You can also use white squid or live crawfish to catch these oversized drum. The trout are starting to show up more and more as the water continually warms. The trout should start to school up soon and that will produce better and more consistent numbers. The bays are also full of healthy redfish. I have been catching a lot of 17-19 inch redfish on my trips with a few keepers mixed in. The lower Galveston Bay System including West Bay is holding a lot of these same redfish. When the wind starts to subside in the next few weeks, (hopefully) I look for the trout reports to be better. We will be fishing some different areas this next week and fishing for speckled trout, so check back in two weeks! Until next time, see you on the water.
Capt. Alan
www.galveston-fishing.com
www.galvestonbayfishingteam.com

Capt. Hope fishing over there is good. Spring is here and we have been on the water for about 2 weeks doing our Spring Break Trips or Family Fun Trips. Every year during March and April we offer discounted trips for families or spring breakers because March and April are consistently windy months for Galveston and the trout bite is not as good as the summer and fall months. We can still fish for trout, but traditionally these spring break trips are great for the kids or individuals that just want to get their line pulled. Usually on these trips you can also fill up an ice chest with whiting, bull croaker, sand trout and puppy drum. You can also catch redfish, sheephead, and oversized drum on these trips. So you can see how these trips are so popular and more and more people every year are booking these fishing trips. Now as for fishing it has been slow to ok all over our bay system. The guides that are strictly fishing for speckled trout have not had a consistent bite. I'm sure some guides are catching tout here and there, but the trout bite has been very though from all the reports I have received. I have had only 2 trout trips this month and on 1 trip we boxed 12 trout and the other we boxed 14 trout. We were using live shrimp under a popping cork. Fishing for trout late in the afternoon has produced the best results. The problem this past week is we have had a strong outgoing tide and the north and northwest winds have made it even worse. Of course when you have very low tides and no good water the fishing suffers. Good news is that the tide has changed and we had a very strong incoming tide saturday and fishing should improved soon. As the water continues to get warmer and we get quality water into our bays, fishing for trout and all other species should be excellent. I will be posting a report every 2-3 weeks so check back for the updates. We will continue to offer our discounted trips until the end of April and we will also be fishing for speckled trout. Until next time, see you on the water.

Capt. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ***-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters: Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some a**hole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys always get up early to pee so what the hell. Besides, like I said, 'I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical S-of-a-B....

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.
These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.
Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.

***How about recruiting Women over 50 ....with PMS !!! You think Men have attitudes !!! Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!!
If nothing else, put them on border patrol....we will have it secured the first night!

It's for the kids!

If anyone is interested, please contact me (Ryan) at 850-933-8609 or ryanhachenberger@gmail.com. He was kept afloat by a narrow life belt that he managed to activate.

At around 0600 hours, Staples was rescued by a passing destroyer and returned to the Astoria, whose captain was attempting to save the cruiser by beaching her. The effort failed, and Staples, still wearing the same life belt, found himself back in the water. Picked up again, he was one of 500 survivors.

On board a transport, he closely examined the life belt that had served him so well. It had been manufactured by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio, and bore a registration number.

Given home leave, Staples asked his mother, who worked for Firestone, about the purpose of the number on the belt. She replied that the company insisted on personal responsibility for the war effort, and that the number was unique and assigned to only one inspector. Staples remembered everything about the life belt, and quoted the number. It was his mother's personal code and affixed to every item she was responsible for approving.
God and the biker

A man was riding his Harley along a California beach when
suddenly the sky clouded above his head... In other words... it is a spin-doctor's "nightmare."
http://js.polls.yahoo.com/quiz/quiziframe.php?poll_id=46067

NOTE: After you vote, you will see a second page that shows the running total and what the opinions are.
Then pass it on... so others can cast their vote.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to CYgraphics on his new born baby BOY, baby and mom are doing well. I live in Massachusetts where unfortunately there are not that many mussels to find. I am looking for people who come across the little (sometime not so little) buggers when outdoors. I would love anyone who finds the muskrat middens on the side of the rivers/lakes (or how ever they come across the mussels) to box up a bunch of paired fellas big and small and send them my way. I am only looking for dead/spent shells, not live ones. I collect and study and write about all the different species. I'm not concered about big or small, the more different ones the better. Anyone who would be able to help me with my studies by just picking up a bunch of the ones you find while fishing would be a HUGE help in my studies. I would certainly compensate you for your effort and of course pay for shipping too. The only requirements would be that you provide matching paired (not single) valves and that they are not totally broken (they don't have to be absolutely perfect with no chips at all, but the cleaner with their natural "skin" the better). I've been trying to make contacts with people across the country that naturally run into mussels while out fishing or hiking that might be able to just pick up shells they come across without it being a big hassle for them. I can't thank enough anyone who would consider assisting me with this project. You can contact me through this site or directly at kczaja@harvard.edu. Thank You!!!!! And good fishing!!!
-Kevin
Homemade fudge

Hi all, A couple of friends of mine went fishing in the area, I gave them some fudge i made with them to take along, they sharred it with some people, someone asked for the recipe, my firends did not have it, they told me about it and asked if i could post them on here, i said no problem, so here it goes folks, GOLD COUNTRY PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE 1 28 ounce jar of creamy peanut butter put into mixing bowl, 1 16 ounce container of white frosting, peel off foil or put into a microwavable bowl and put in microwave for 1 minute, or untill melted, pour into peanut butter, stir untill smooth, put in a pan and cut into pieces, you might want to let it cool before cutting.
