Fished the FCKA monthly tournament with MillerTime down at the St. Marks Lighthouse on Sunday. We headed up the East River looking for reds and were able to find a couple. MillerTime caught his off an oyster bar near the mouth of the East River and I caught mine in the grass line farther up the river. I saw the fish with his back out of the water. Must have been in only about 6" of water at the time. I threw a new Penny Gulp in between him and an me and when he came out of the grass I pulled it up and he went straight for it. He measured over 23" with a pinched tail and good enough for third place in the tourney. The two winners had fish at 25".

My red - the picture isn't good though. He measured larger at the cookout.

cookout after (i think crocs should sponsor - notice what everyone has on)

what my red had to eat before my gulp.

I'm new to the site, and am reading up.  That was interesting about that crab your red had eaten.  I've seen lots of little crabs inside reds.  I've always wanted to rig a weedless soft plastic crab, but i've never tried it.  Have you heard of doing that?  Do you rig your Gulps with a normal jighead?  I'd like to rig one weedless, but never tried it.

I've never tried the Gulp crabs as bait, have heard of others that did. As for rigging the gulp I set it up just like any other soft bait on the jig. I have tried weedless setups with a bass hook and it worked. I was using a softer plastic like a Saltwater Assassin though. I think the Gulp plastics are a too tough to rig weedless.

Thanks.  What you said makes sense.  Unfortunately, I need to wait until next weekend to go try it out!  Good fishing.
